Tainan and Taichung, Taiwan

In 2000, Corning was the first liquid crystal display (LCD) glass substrate supplier to locate a manufacturing facility in Taiwan to provide the region’s display makers with a reliable supply of high-quality substrates. Since its opening in 2001, Corning’s Tainan facility, located in the Tainan Science-based Industrial Park, has expanded to become a fully integrated plant.

In 2005, Corning rapidly completed a major expansion of the Tainan plant, setting records for the company as it continued to develop new processes and efficiencies for future capacity expansions.

In 2006, Corning opened a second LCD glass substrate facility at the Central Taiwan Science Park in Taichung. Among the largest LCD glass substrate manufacturing facilities in the world, the Taichung facility is designed for further expansion as needed. The size of the Taichung plant and speed with which it was built make it a major milestone in Corning history.

To date, there have been numerous expansions to the facility, which manufactures Generation (Gen) 5 and larger glass substrates to meet the high demand of the LCD TV market.

By locating two of the largest LCD glass plants in the world in this region, Corning has demonstrated its commitment to Taiwan’s vibrant, high-growth thin-film transistor liquid display (TFT-LCD) industry.
