Samsung Corning Precision Glass (SCP)

Samsung Corning Precision Glass Co. Ltd., Corning's 50-percent-owned equity venture with Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd, was established in Korea in 1995. Samsung Corning Precision (SCP) is the leading thin-film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) glass substrate supplier in Korea, one of the largest LCD-producing regions in the global display market.

While SCP focuses on large-size TFT-LCD glass substrates – helping drive the economical manufacture of LCD TV panels sized 40 inches and above – their glass is also widely used in smaller sized LCD TVs, notebook computers, desktop monitors, digital cameras, mobile phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), and global positioning systems (GPS) for autos. SCP leverages Corning’s technology and Samsung’s manufacturing expertise to supply premium LCD glass substrates to Korea’s display industry.

SCP continues to add capacity to keep pace with rapid industry growth while providing reliable supply and quality through its production facilities in Gumi and Cheonan.

In late 2007, SCP expanded its area of expertise by acquiring Samsung Corning, a company making cathode-ray tube (CRT) glass and other display parts and materials. By cultivating the synergies of the two companies, SCP will be able to offer a wide-ranging product portfolio, including parts and materials for the flat panel display industry.
