Environmentally Friendly Glass

Corning’s award-winning EAGLE XG™ glass substrates are making the world’s best consumer electronics more environmentally friendly.  As the industry’s first LCD glass substrates to contain no added heavy metals or halides, EAGLE XG is a massive technical breakthrough. Display Glass

EAGLE XG enables eco-friendly life-cycle product design, and offers LCD technology increased opportunities to be green before, during and after use. At the beginning of the product lifecycle, EAGLE XG removes potentially harmful chemicals from the  glass manufacturing process. While the consumer owns the device, the incorporation of an environmentally friendly glass allows customers to feel good about the impact of their purchase. And at the end of the display’s natural life, EAGLE XG increases the potential for recycling.

As regulations are passed in the coming years, EAGLE XG will continue to provide superior performance in an environmentally friendly substrate that surpasses impending regulations and expands the options for recycling opportunities. By meeting current regulations and anticipating those to come, EAGLE XG glass substrates help future-proof the end product.

Did you know?

  • If all LCDs between 2009 and 2012 were made with Corning’s environmentally friendly EAGLE XG glass substrates instead of conventional LCD glass, display makers would avoid using 19,000 metric tons of heavy metals – enough hazardous material to fill more than 3,000 dump trucks.
  • LCD monitors offer consumers considerable savings over a product’s lifetime. In some cases, the energy consumption of an average LCD display can he half to two-thirds that for an average cathode ray tube (CRT) television. ENERGY STAR labeled LCD monitors can save even more.
